November - Whitetail Rut

Mature bucks are on the move. So what? Now is when you need to be putting in your time. The bigger bucks seemed to have started moving during all hours of the day here in Minnesota and across the midwest. Here are some tips that can work.

Keep checking and running your trail cameras!  A good tactic is to place trail cameras on trails leading into doe bedding areas. A local hunter checked his camera mid morning on Oct. 30th and found a good buck headed into the doe bedding area on his property. He set up on that trail and harvested that same buck that evening.

Hunt where the does are. If you know where the does are feeding hunt travel corridors between bedding and food in the evenings. Secluded food plots can also be hot!

Don't give up. There have been many times I have sat all day and towards evening the only deer I lay eyes on is a big one.  Sit all day!

If you have to choose when to be on stand hunt the cold fronts. It has been a warm fall this year and one good cold front will really get the deer up and moving.

Be in the woods Nov. 7-8. More Boone and Crockets are killed during this time period than any other.
